Your Writing Sanctuary

Welcome to the Unicorn Authors Club, where authors of color (and allies who really mean it!) finish our gorgeous, urgently needed books.

Flowers and plant life blooming around a brown-skinned hand writing with a blue pen.

The world needs your book.

That book you’ve been dreaming of, obsessing over, can’t let go of (even if you tried). The book that sparkles inside of you, longing to burst free. The book that will create joy, open hearts, and reshape our understanding of the world. The book that only you can write. We can help.

It really works!

We offer rigorous coaching, craft lessons, member care, and co-writing sessions to help writers complete book proposals and manuscripts. We’ve served 150+ authors since 2020, with several books in the pipeline to production. So far, our writers have secured:

    • Literary agents
    • Awards and fellowships across genres (Whiting, De Groot, Fulbright, Regal Press, Poet Laureate Fellowship, New York Public Library)
    • $200,000+ in grants to support their writing
    • $600,000+ in book deals (One World, Amistad, Haymarket, TarcherPerigee, Hachette, North Atlantic Books)

A Word from Our Founder

As an author, writing coach, and editor, I’ve worked with hundreds of writers over three decades. I know how hard it can be to cobble together support, especially if we or our stories are marginalized. We seek out craft advice and writing groups while dodging “isms,” aggressions, and triggers. DIY-ing all of that support can be A LOT (on top of the actual work of writing!).

That’s why I created the Unicorn Authors Club. Because every writer deserves a home—a place to get the work done, recuperate in between, and connect for love and inspiration.
