SANCTUARY COACH TRAINING

The only training for writing coaches created by BIPOC writers for diverse, anti-racist coaches

Imagine: A world filled with diverse writing coaches trained to guide BIPOC and ally writers to finish gorgeous, urgently needed manuscripts (without having to shrink, explain, or assimilate).

Imagine: You, a coach working with your dream clients, sustaining yourself financially by doing work that you love.

Club Co-director Raychelle Heath with a smile, wearing a shirt that reads: DOPE BLACK POET. Behind her, a scrawl of ink and a burst of sky-blue smoke; in the foreground, an orange hibiscus, purple flowers, and green leaves.
Flowers and plants, mainly yellow, orange, and some green, all fitted around a white pencil pointing upward.

Too often, authors are dissuaded from shaping the stories we really want to write.

“Only white people can publish in [X] genre.”
“You need to explain this food/culture/family dynamic more.”
“The narrator just isn’t relatable.”
“Too many characters with names that are too long.”

These are just a few of the things that our Unicorn authors have actually been told by outside coaches and “experts” in the publishing industry.

To help writers bring their books to fruition in the Unicorn Authors Club (150+ members so far!), we’ve developed a methodology that helps authors to:

  • Recover from toxic workshops, MFA trauma, and terrible publishing advice.
  • Develop realistic writing goals, customized to work with their own schedule and energy.
  • Restore a joyous relationship with their writing.
We have conducted our unique coach training twice, and several trainees from both cohorts are now using these techniques as coaches themselves.
